Find the hours between two clock readings
The hours calculator turns a start and finish into a duration. It also shows decimal hours, which are useful when a form expects 7.5 rather than 7 hours 30 minutes.
A finish earlier than the start is treated as the next day. Equal start and finish times mean zero hours. This tool uses clock arithmetic, without a calendar date or a daylight saving adjustment.
How to use this tool
- Enter the start and finish times.
- Enter breaks to subtract, in minutes.
- Read the net duration, decimal hours and total minutes.
Example
From 09:00 to 17:00 is 8 hours. Subtract a 30 minute break to get 7 hours 30 minutes, or 7.5 decimal hours.
