Calculate sunlight for a place and date

Latitude and longitude determine the sun's position, while the time zone determines the clock reading of each event. Enter north and east as positive values, south and west as negative values.

The calculation uses an approximate horizon angle of 0.833 degrees below a level horizon. Hills, elevation and atmospheric conditions change observed times. Estimates become less certain at high latitudes.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the location's latitude and longitude.
  2. Choose its local date and time zone.
  3. Read sunrise, sunset and the estimated daylight duration.

Example

For Yerevan, use about 40.18 north, 44.51 east and the Asia/Yerevan time zone. Change the date to compare the length of daylight through the year.

Common questions

Why is there no sunrise or sunset on some dates?

Near the poles, the sun can stay above or below the horizon for the whole local day. The result reports that condition instead of inventing an event time.
