Check the unit before converting a timestamp
Unix time measures time from 1 January 1970 at 00:00 UTC. Systems store it in seconds or milliseconds, so choosing the correct unit matters.
The results include a UTC date, the equivalent Unix values and this device's local reading. For date input, include Z for UTC or an explicit time offset.
How to use this tool
- Choose the direction of conversion.
- Enter a timestamp and its unit, or an ISO date with a time zone.
- Read the UTC date and copy the value your system needs.
Example
The timestamp 0 means 1 January 1970 at 00:00 UTC. A timestamp of 1,000 in milliseconds means one second after that moment.
Common questions
Does a timestamp contain a time zone?
A Unix timestamp represents one moment. The same moment has different local clock readings in different zones, but its Unix value stays the same.
